Frustration (at work)
Jan. 30th, 2007 08:06 amI don't know how to deal with frustration at all, I think. I was talking to my friend Andrea last night, and she suggested that if I was frustrated with things going on outside myself, that I have no control over, that I am not "letting go" enough.
She's right, of course. I want things to be better/different/more efficiently and I want to help them get that way.
I can't. And I get frustrated when I try to do it anyway.
So my choices are: give up trying; try in a different way by influencing those above me to change the goals; helping in different ways so others can meet the current goals in ways that they understand but might be slighter improvements; setting my goals to be more like the current goals.
See? I can learn that I have other choices than just giving up. I do not agree with the current goals, and I may make other choices about some of those things. For others, I may have to choose to continue doing my job as ethically as I can, and let people do things less efficiently, using more resources, if that's the direction the company has chosen.
That is more "letting go." It's really hard sometimes. I don't make a good follower - I wasn't trained for it.

Seriously, I know how you feel. So much of what I do is out of my hands, but still my responsibility. And S. and I have a constant debate over when "letting go" verges over into "quitting." No help, I know, but, well, right there with you.
