My new apartment and town
May. 16th, 2006 05:51 pmI will get a Flickr account. Really.
Meanwhile, I will just say that it's a very nice apartment. The kitchen borders on nano, it's so small. The bathroom is larger than my current bathroom. I have a garage, and coin-op laundry.
My new building was built in 1939. It has hardwood floors in living room, dining room, and the single bedroom, and nice arched doorways. Central air conditioning and a new furnace have been added, which are nice. The windows are very old.
It's in a section of town referred to as "the gaslight district." There's a gas street light across from my driveway. Two blocks away is excellent pizza. Four blocks away is the art cinema, and two from there are everything else: Thai restaurant, Indian restaurants, library, post office, grocery store, flower shop, ice cream shop, and bunches of other stuff I haven't even found yet.
I'm happy with the area. My landlord is pretty cool. My next-door neighbor runs a graphic design company and is really great - she bikes and used to play fast-pitch. She's going to tell me where to run and go to a gym.
I've got two other neighbors in my building. I've met the one below me, quickly, on his way out. He's a med student. The other is a law student, rides a motorcycle, and I haven't met him. My street seems to be a mix of graduate and professional rentals and owned homes.
At times, I think I will be happy there.

Date: 2006-05-16 06:40 pm (UTC)I am happy you are settling in. It will take time to get 100% comfortable but eventually it should happen. It is cool you have gotten to explore so much of your new neighborhood so soon.
We are moving to a different part of Columbus in July and are looking forward to exploring the new neighborhood ourselves. Email me your new snail mail address please.
You are in my thoughts daily.

Date: 2006-05-18 07:59 am (UTC)Damn. Just noticed it's a locked post. Text below.
Car Repair Stuff:
1) I needed to have the brakes redone. While it's expensive, it's maintanence which is acceptable.
2) The lights that were lighting up, stopped after the car repair place reset it (i.e. software issue)
3) The rear brake relay was broken, which is usually a $200 replacement part at the dealership. They found me a replacement from a local junkyard, costing me about $40.00, Yay!!!
If you need a great car repair place in Cincinnati, let me know and I'll heartily recommend them. (CarX on Smith road, near Rookwood Pavillion)
Enjoy the new place!
