House organization
Dec. 6th, 2005 04:01 pmFor the past two weekends, L and I have been doing house chores. We went through the bins in her basement, the hall linen (etc) closet, and part of the garage at her house two weekends ago.
Last weekend, we started on my basement, which needs to have the floor paint scraped up and prepped and repainted. We're doing half at a time. This also means that we went through many of the boxes and shelves in my basement and rid me of excess. Then we moved everything except the bookcase to one side of the basement. We'll move everything to the other side and repeat, after that.
Goodwill, the cat clinic, and the ReUse center are doing well by us.
We started with the scraping, including removing the linoleum remnant. That was so gross! Condensation from the past 16 years underneath it was not a pretty sight. But it did remove a lot of floor paint as we pulled it up.
There is a hole in my basement floor, and a hollow space under it. The hole is a crack, the hollow space is about one foot in diameter. My maintenance supervisor assures me that the cement will hold over the hollow space, and that the crack can be sealed with caulk. He believes there used to be a water pipe in use there, and when they removed it, they patched it ugly.
Next, to facilitate removal of the rest of the paint, I can lay wet towels over the floor, pour hot/boiling water over the floor, or just scrape and leave lots of old paint. Then we paint the floor!
I'm hoping to have it all done by the end of the month. What with our weekend pattern, I should be able to do some during the weekdays while I'm in town, and when L gets here again, we can attack some more if I'm not finished.
What a great girlfriend, eh? Scraping and painting my basement floor! How can she possibly get anything out of this??
