Farmer's Market saves my soul
Sep. 1st, 2004 08:35 amI got very little sleep last night, between getting what I needed and taking care of my dog. And my goal for this morning was to make it to the farmer's market before getting to work at 7:30 this morning. The alarm going off at 6a made me want to change my mind about the market. I'm glad I got up anyway.
I got local peaches, apples, and blueberries. I got organic parsley, onions, garlic, corn, and green beans. I spent so little. I got so much. And I can go to the market any Saturday to find everything that's in season, and many Wednesdays still, too.
Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to be alive, to live where I can kiss my girlfriend on the corner under a streetlight, to have access to abundant food and a job working with good people, to be fit and healthy. Somehow, the farmer's market renewed my belief in the world as a good, wholesome place today, and I needed that.
