Urban commuter
May. 11th, 2008 10:23 pmI'm working on this decision to buy a city dwelling. All my friends who live here tell me it's too expensive to live in my uber-commutable neighborhood. I've done some research at Zillow and I find that there are pockets of affordability.
I have to wait until someone decides to sell a house, though.
So I'm using the network that works ... and it ain't the intarweb. It's not that folk are web shy, it's just that things are done differently here. So I'm letting it be known that I'm looking, and so far I know someone who knows someone who's dad died and left them a house that's sorta in the neighborhood that I'd certainly consider. And that's how things go.
I also have fives on an absolutely beautiful house in a nice but further-away neighborhood, lived in by someone moving away. The house is 1/2 the price of living in my neighborhood, but the commute would maybe involve a car instead of a bike or bus, and so would grocery shopping and getting to most of my rehearsals and meetings.
Maybe it's worth (waiting to find one and) paying more for an old house in a neighborhood central to everything I do, so I can walk everywhere. Maybe.
