Spring

The birds are chirping madly this morning. They were quiet for months, it seems, those few songbirds we hear in the midst of the city. Now they are loudly proclaiming their rights to territory, but I choose to think of it as joy.

The magnolia buds are fuzzy and getting bigger daily. They are light green and fattening with the warm rain we've had lately.

Hopefulness, starting fulfillment.

You and I had a similar experience this morning. The birds here are going mad too. I just hope the magnolias are not killed this year as a result of a late snow. That was NOT fun.

magnolias

frost-killed magnolias would be bad! We didn't have that last year, just drought that finally ended in ... late Oct or early Nov, I think. And a very quick spring. So I'm noticing the earlier signs this year.

52 degrees today. Woo-hoo!

Southern girl! It was snowing this morning when I looked out the window and the temperatures are still well below freezing.

Snow! The kind that stays on the ground and you can make into things?

I think I saw snowpeople at one point this year. But I don't remember if it was down here. I think so -- it was in mid-December maybe. We only had one snow that lasted a couple days like that.

We had a 1/2 inch one day in January, after which it was so cold that it stayed for two more days. Yeah, I'm glad it's getting toward spring. But I hear we may still get an ice storm.

It was sunny and 52 today. There was a week where I wanted something warmer than my leather coat. Yeah. Wow.

Well, sometimes it was snow you can make into something, and sometimes it was too cold for the snow to be sticky at all.

No birds chirping here... they done froze up! It was 50 below zero this morning but we went to the start of the yukon quest sled dog race and stood outside in the 22 below weather for almost 2 hours to watch dogs run joyfully - they all looked as if they were smiling so I guess that counts as joy. If A sees this post she'll probably say she hates you right about now for living somewhere warmer than here ;-)

OMG cold!

I could not believe that there was a 115 degree difference in our temps earlier this week. It seems unbelievable.

But we don't have sled dogs, either. Sled gods have to count for something big.
